Experience 180 years of American life in the home of Thomas and Martha Peter and 6 generations of their descendants. The Custis-Peter family was the only family to live in this home from the time it was completed in 1816 until the last owner died in 1983. The home is filled with family heirlooms including over 100 objects from Mt. Vernon. Experience 19th and 20th century life and events in Georgetown and the growing city of Washington. Enjoy the elegant neo-classical house designed by Dr. William Thornton, first architect of the U.S. Capitol. Wander 5 1/2 acres of beautifully landscaped gardens.
